Specialtour Russian Border

Tourdiscription

This is a very special dog sledding tour, which will bring you closer to the dogs and northern Norway’s nature than any other tour!
There are plenty challenges! We cover a distance of 1000km in four weeks.

The long distance and the time period require considerable flexibility of the route’s individual stages. Consistently, we have to choose the route, which best allows the expedition to progress.

The terrain is generally less mountainous than for example the Dividal National Park. The Finnmark plateau is a plateau with deep ravines, but on these high plateaus the expedition will be considerably exposed to the weather.

Finnmark is Norway’s northernmost and biggest district. With only 1.5 inhabitants per km2 it is also the least populated county, with a few fishing villages spread along the coast. The fjords west of the North Cape are much more “heavily” populated than the eastern part. The Sami live mainly in the inland.

As with all major expeditions good group dynamics is particularly important. Everyday tasks, from food preparation to fixing the carriages, all tour participants must take something on!
Here, each participant must find his or her place. The daily routines and the time spend with the dogs and people in harsh weather can build very special friendships! The guide only functions as a group leader and pathfinder. It is expected that all participants master all the commands of the mushing and outdoor life.

Special Program

Please note: this tour the procedure is somewhat different than our other offerings!

ONE day of arrival in KIRKENES where we stay in a hostel just outside the city. Therefore, you must book your flight to KIRKENES. On the SECOND day we load up the sleigh, and after a short introduction, the tour starts.

Days of rest

We’ve planned for two to three days of rest into the itinerary, allowing the Huskies and musher can recover. The well-being of the dogs plays a very important part in such long trips! Paw control is on the agenda! And sometimes an exhausted teammate has to get on the sled.

After 26 days tour we reach the Huskylodge.

The departure must be organized, as for our normal tours, from Bardufoss.
