After departing from Altevatn Lake, we pass the Leinavatn Lake, which is close to the Swedish border. During our tour we will pass by Vuoskojaure, a little Sami settlement.
Heading east, we leave the mountains, and reach Vittangijærvi where we enter ancient pine and spruce forests.
Covered in conifer forest, Northern Lapland ́s hills are often compared with the vast nature of Alaska.
In the west, the Norwegian mountains majestically stretch from the south to the west while in the east, the epic horizon extends deep into Finland.
Now our teams enter deep into northern Sweden ́s primeval forest – the land of the great reindeer herds!
After passing the little town of Jukkasjärvi, our expedition turns onto the frozen Torneälva River on which we proceed northwest, until we reach Övre Soppero – the heart of Swedish Lapland! From here we move uphill, until we re-enter into Norway.
The rest of the tour ́s route depends on the weather conditions, and we return to Altevatn Lake either via Vouskojaure, or we pass by Torneträsk.
In Sweden, we mostly follow Sami tracks and marked snowmobile trails. Therefore we cover good ground even during bad weather a snow.
We stay in cabins and many camping spots, in dry pine forests that invite you to cozy evenings by the warmth of campfire!
On this tour, the guider leads the group and provides continuous support.
In this long expedition an unforgettable experience is guaranteed, and will make departing from the dogs difficult.
Length of the route on this tour is about 400 kilometers.
The Sami never had their own territory and are divided across the four countries Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Historical this area is called Lapland. This sparsely populated landscape stretches from the Baltic Sea west over gently undulating taiga area towards the Swedish Norwegian border and the heights of the Skanden mountain of about 2000 m.
Sápmi is crossed by numerous large rivers. One of them is the Torne River. The Torne River flows from the great Swedish lake Tornetrask towards the Baltic Sea. In the northernmost municipality in Sweden, Kiruna, it flows through the elongated lake Jukkasjärvi. Many connect the name Jukkasjärvi with the world famous ice hotel, situated on the banks of the lake.
